In July 2006 I sailed from Hawaii to San Francisco aboard a 36 foot catamaran, Rainbow.
Three of us made the trip. Cliff Shaw, owner of the boat,
Doug Hendrick, navigator, and me, Steve. The trip took exactly
21 days and covered roughly 2,300 miles, just as expected. The green islands
in the bottom left is Hawaii, the tiny black dot in the top right green area
is San Francisco. The white grid area in between is the Pacific Ocean.
Below you'll find a Map of our progress. Below the map are the Coordinates. And, further down the page is a daily, more or less, log of our progress. I called in every few days with a satellite phone. Based on past experience and tales from other sailors, we expected a relaxing three week sail with light winds and easy days filled with fishing and reading. The ocean delivered the exact opposite of what we expected. You can drop me a line at gabman98@yahoo.com |
I called my wife or father from the boat every few days using the Sat Phone, worked
flawlessly. My father and sister updated the website while I was sailing.
They moved the boat on the map and added position and these notes below. |
